At the beginning of 2017 Danish police arrested the South Korean dressage rider Chung Yoo-ra, who is wanted by her homeland.
South Korea has formally asked to have the woman, who is in her early twenties, extradited. According to the South Korean news outlet Yonhap, Chung Yoo-ra was arrested for staying illegally in Denmark.
If that is indeed the case, why is Chung Yoo-ra not simply being expelled from Denmark?
Why is it necessary with a complicated extradition case, if the young woman was staying in Denmark illegally?
At the beginning of January both Danish and South Korean media reported extensively about the spectacular arrest in Aalborg in North Jutland, and the public was informed then, that Chung Yoo-ra is the daughter of the protagonist in a corruption scandal involving the president of South Korea.
The current Danish government has branded itself on having a tough stance on foreigners wanting to stay in Denmark.
Chung Yoo-ra is currently being held in custody in Aalborg for four weeks.
